This collection is inspired by red velvet cupcakes, each look is a character inhabiting a pastry shop as either an employee or a patron, each character is connected by their sweet tooth. I pursued red velvet as my inspiration, in part because of my own sweet tooth, and my desire for an injection of levity in to what would otherwise be serious tailored clothing, and in part because of red velvets parallels to sustainable design (an issue which sits close to my heart).
Once a colorful natural phenomena, the result of fully natural and tasteful acidic reactions induced during the process of baking, red velvet pastries have been reborn as oversaturated over-dyed shadows of their past selves. Unhealthy and tasteless, the cost of quick and easy preparation. I hunger for that pastries past, and seek to capture it with natural materials, functional and lasting construction, and reliable methods of construction. Utilizing sustainability as a given rather than a gimmick.
